Maandag 04.10.10 Na het bezoek van het Middeleeuwse Monemvasia willen we naar de westkust van de zuid-oostelijke punt van de Peloponisosschiereiland en de omgeving van de beruchte kaap Maleas. Vooraleer we de vlakte bereiken waarin Neapoli ligt rijden we langs een vrij goede weg die langs heel wat mooie, nog authentieke dorpen kronkelt.

Avant d'atteindre la plaine de Neapoli nous suivant une belle route sillonne par des villages encore bien authentiques.

=== Monday 04.10.10 After the visit of the Middle Age village of Monemvasia we want to discover the west coast of the south-east Peloponnisos and the region of cape Maléas so feared by sailors. Before arriving in the plain of Neapoli we are following a nice road crossing by still very authentic villages.

Neapoli is een niet onleuke plaats met een mooi waterfront, dat ook vrij netjes oogt. Tussen de verschillende tavernas kiezen we Tzibaeri uit: er zitten naast een Duits en een Italiaans toeristenkoppel ook enkele Grieken te eten. De vriendelijke ober serveert ons een schotel gegrilde en gefruitte visjes en zeevruchtjes en een choriatiki; met een karaf water en twee koffies hellèniko skèto rekenen voor dit licht maar smakelijk middagmaal 18 euro af. Het is hier duidelijk goedkoper dan in Lefkas. Dit was ons ook al eerder opgevallen: gisteravond in de psarotaberna naast ons To Petrino guesthouse in Monemvasia en bij Maria's To Lithostroto in Areopoli waren de rekeningen steeds erg redelijk.

=== Neapoli est une petite ville qui ne manque pas de charme, avec un beau front de mer, qui semble assez soigné. Parmi les nombreuses tavernes notre choix porte sur Tzibaeri: il y a à part un couple d'Allemands et un couple d'Italiens aussi quelques Grecs. L'aimable serveur nous apportera un plat de petits poissons et de fruits de mer grillés et frits ainsi qu'une choriatiki; avec une carafe d'eau et deux cafés hellèniko skèto nous ne payons pour cet agréable repas que 18 euros! C'est nettement moins cher ici qu'à Lefkas. Nous nous en étions déjà rendu compte: ainsi hier soir dans la psarotaberna face à To Petrino guesthouse à Monemvasia et au Lithostroto de Maria, à Areopoli les additions étaient toujours très raisonnables.

=== Neapoli is a nice small town not without some charm, with a nice and apparently well kept seafront. Amongst the numerous tavernas we choose Tzibaeri where a German and an Italian couple have lunch and some Greeks too. To the friendly waiter we order a plate of small fried and grilled fishes and seafood and a choriatiki, a carafe of water and two Greek coffees; we'll pay only 18 euros, what's a lot cheaper than in Lefkas. We had it already realized: so yesterday evening the bill in the psarotaberna in front of To Petrino guesthouse in Monemvasia and at Maria's Lithostroto in Areopoli the bills were always very reasonable.

Van Monemvasia naar Vathy Chersonisos Methanoon en een bezoek aan Epidavros en Nafplion

Dinsdag 05.10.10 Het is erg bewolkt als we Monemvasia verlaten voor een lange tocht die ons naar het mooie visserhaventje Vathy moet leiden, waar we vorig jaar vijf dagen verbleven toen we op weg waren met onze boot naar het doel van onze hele reis: Hortó. De tocht gaat afwisselend langs de kust en door de bergen want we willen een kijkje nemen in Limani Geraka en Kyparisi.

Van Monemvasia rijden we naar Agios Ioannis en dan via een kleine weg naar Limani Geraka. Om daarna Kyparisi te bereiken moeten we langs Gerakas, Richea, en Paraskeika, dan naar Lambokambos en verder langs Pistamata en Charakas. Na ons bezoekje aan Kyparisi moeten we terug naar Lambokambos om de weg naar Kremasti te nemen om zo Leonidio te bereiken. Daar verlaten we de bergen en dalen we af richting Plaka. We zullen echter merken dat dit een optimistische verwachting was en dat onze nieuwe kaart op de realiteit vooruit loopt.

=== Mardi 05.10.10 Il fait très nuageux lorsque nous quittons Monemvasia pour une longue route qui doit nous mener en fin de journée au charmant petit port de Vathy, où l'année passée nous nous sommes arrêtés cinq jours lorsqu'avec notre bateau nous étions en route vers le but de notre voyage: Hortó. Tantôt notre route suit la côte tantôt elle s'engage dans les montagnes car nous voulons passer par Limani Geraka et Kyparisi.

De Monemvasia nous allons vers Agios Ioannis pour rejoindre Limani Geraka par une petite route. Ensuite, pour nous rendre à Kyparisi il nous faut passer par Gerakas, Richea, et Paraskeika, puis vers Lambokambos, Pistamata et Charakas. Après notre petit détour vers Kyparisi il nous faut retourner vers Lambokambos pour rejoindre Kremasti où nous trouverons la route de Leonidio. Puis nous quitterons les montagnes et nous redescendrons vers la mer en direction de Plaka. Hélas, nous constaterons que c'était une attente optimiste en que notre nouvelle carte du Peloponnèse est en avance sur la réalité

=== Tuesday 05.10.10 It's very cloudy when we leave Monemvasia for a long road which has to lead us at the end of the day to the charming small harbour of Vathy, where last year we remained five days when with our boat we were on the way towards the aim of our voyage: Hortó. Our road is now following the coast now it's crossing the mountains because we want to go first to Limani Geraka and to Kyparisi.

From Monemvasia we go to Agios Ioannis to join Limani Geraka by a small road. Then, to reach Kyparisi we have to cross by Gerakas, Richea, and Paraskeika, then towards Lambokambos, Pistamata and Charakas. After our small detour towards Kyparisi we have to return to Lambokambos to join Kremasti where we shall take the road to Leonidio. There we shall leave the mountains and we shall go towards the sea in the direction of Plaka. But, we shall realize that this was an optimistic expectation and that our new map of the Peloponnisos is ahead of the reality

een Engelse zeiler met zijn vrouw getuigde hoe een flotilje van 10 huurboten hem wilde verplichten van zijn ligplaats op te krassen ...omdat ze naast elkaar wilden liggen; maar dit was buiten de - sympathieke - waard gerekend! === un navigateur et sa femme nous ont raconté comment une flotille de 10 bateaux charter a voulu les déloger de leur emplacement ... ils voulaient pouvoir s'amarrer côte à côte, mais c'etait compter sans notre sympathique lascars! === a sailor and his wife told us how a flotilla of 10 charter boats tried to get moving them out of their berth ... they wanted to moor together, but this was forgetting our nice fellow!

Om Leonidio te bereiken moeten we dus terug naar Kremasti om daarna in Agios Dimitrios de oude weg langs Mario en Peleta te volgen. We hadden dus onze Michelin-kaart nr 980 1:700 000 van Griekenland moeten volgen hoewel deze weg slechts met een witte lijn is aangeduid - en die betrouwden we niet terwijl het de goeie weg was - in plaats van onze nieuwe gedetailleerde Griekse Road-kaart nr.5 1:200 000 van de Peloponnisos kaart te geloven die de nieuwe directe weg van Kremasti naar Leonidio als volledig afgewerkt opgaf. ] === [ * La route vers Kremasti n'est- après un premier tronçon tout neuf - pas du tout terminée: à la limite des préfectures de Lakonta et de Arkadia la route devient une dirth road , non-asphaltée et en très mauvais état et comme l'orage menace nous n'osons pas nous engager dans les montagnes. Het is al laat als we Argos binnenrijden. De kortere kustweg naar Nafplio hebben we gemist, en het blijft niet bij die ene vergissing: bij het buitenrijden van Nafplion denken we er goed aan te doen de weg langs Epidavros links te laten en via Drepano naar Fanari te rijden om zo het Methanoon schiereiland en Vathy te bereiken. Het is een vergissing die ons een stresserende bergrit* in de duisternis zal kosten. Het is na 21 uur als we in Vathy aankomen! Intussen weten we dat de kustweg langs de zuidelijke kant van de golf van Epidavros in tegenstelling tot wat onze kaart vertelt thans volledig is doorgetrokken ( de borden die de Europese subsidies vermelden staan er nog! ) en dat een aantal oude vakken vernieuwd en verbreed zijn, zodat er een goede verbinding is tussen Galatas - en het eiland Poros - en Corinthe. We hadden dus in Nafplio de weg langs Archaios Epidavros en Ligourio moeten nemen tot in Palea Epidavros waar we de aansluiting hadden gevonden met de (nieuwe) weg van Corinthe naar Galatas!

=== Il est déjà tard quand nous arrivons à Argos. Nous avons raté la route directe vers Nafplio et ce ne sera pas notre seule erreur: à la sortie de Nauplie nous pensons bien faire en ne prenant pas la route vers Epidaure mais de passer par Drepano pour rejoindre Fanari et ensuite la péninsule de Methanoon et Vathy. Cette erreur nous coûtera la nuit tombée une stressante traversée des montagnes *. Il est 21 heures passées quand nous arrivons à Vathy! Depuis nous savons que la route côtière qui suit le golfe d'Epidaure par le sud est terminée contrairement à ce mentionne notre carte ( le panneaux mentionnant le montant des subventions européennes sont encore en place! ) et qu'un certain nombre d'anciens tronçons ont été rénovés et élargis, de sorte qu'il y a maintenant une bonne liaison entre Galatas - et l'île de Poros - et Corinthe. Nous aurions donc dû prendre à Nauplie la route d'Archaios Epidavros et Ligourio jusqu'à Palea Epidavros où nous aurions trouvé l'embranchement de la (nouvelle) route de Corinthe à Galatas!

=== It's is already late when we arrive at Argos. We missed the direct road towards Nafplio and it will not be our only error: leaving Nafplio we think that it's better to ignore the road towards Epidavros but to pass by Drepano to join Fanari and the peninsula of Methanoon and Vathy. This error will cost us at night a stressful cross by the mountains *. So it is last 9 pm when we arrive at Vathy! But now we know that the coastal road which follows the gulf of Epidavros by the South is ended in opposition to the mention on our map (the panels mentioning the amount of the European subsidies are still there!) and that some sections of the former road have been renewed and widened, so that there is now a good connection between Galatas - and the island of Poros - and Corinth. We should thus have taken in Nafplio the road to Archaios Epidavros and Ligourio till Palea Epidavros where we would have found the crossing of the (new) road from Corinth to Galatas!
